Joshua Ryan Gantt, convicted by a Calvert County jury in July 2022, of rape and sexual abuse of a minor, was sentenced on January 30, 2023, to 25 years, suspended to 10 years of active incarceration.  The sentence was imposed by the Honorable Mark S. Chandlee.  Judge Chandlee also placed Gantt on 5 years of probation upon release and required him to undergo lifetime supervision as a sex offender.  Gantt will have to serve at least half of his active sentence before becoming parole eligible.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Rebecca N. Cordero.  Evidence revealed that Gantt molested the victim, a family friend, over a 4-year period.  The victim reported the abuse when he was 13 years old.  At sentencing, the State asked the Court to impose a sentence of 23 years active incarceration.

On January 9, 2023, Alvin Lee Redmon of Lusby was sentenced to 50 years incarceration for 2 counts of sexual abuse of a minor.  Calvert County Circuit Court Judge Mark S. Chandlee suspended 20 years of the sentence, leaving Redmon with 30 years of active incarceration followed by 5 years of supervised probation.

The victim first disclosed the abuse when she was 17 years old and told police that it had been going on for many years.  She said the Defendant told her he would kill her if she told anyone.

In asking the Court to impose the maximum sentence, Assistant State’s Attorney Rebecca N. Cordero noted that the Defendant had shown no remorse and had used the victim “as his own personal gratification tool.”  The Defendant is facing similar charges in other jurisdictions.

On April 22, 2022, Calvert County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of an individual who had brandished a firearm at another individual in the parking lot of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, adjacent to Sunderland Elementary School.  The complainant reported that he and his girlfriend were walking to their car following a school play performance, when Curtis Lee Millsap, II, with whom the complainant’s girlfriend shares a child, engaged in what started as a verbal altercation with the complainant.  During the argument, Millsap pulled a handgun and pointed at the complainant at a 10-foot range.  The complainant fled on foot for safety and subsequently reported the incident to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office.

On October 14, 2022, Millsap pleaded guilty to Second Degree Assault and Wear/Carry a Handgun on Person.   He was sentenced on December 29, 2022, before the Honorable Andrew S. Rappaport to 10 years with 5 years’ suspended incarceration for the Second-Degree Assault and three years with 1 year suspended for the Wear/Carry of a Handgun to be served in consecutive terms.  In total, Millsap was sentenced to seven years of active incarceration and 5 years of supervised probation upon his release.
